TESTING LOLA MAKEUP: CRUELTY FREE MAKEUP FOR REAL WOMEN

Lola makeup review

I realise it's been more than a hot minute since there was any new content on here but after a kind of longer than expected break, I'm back at it and hopefully full of ideas! I was delighted to be contacted recently by LOLA Makeup and asked if I would like to try out some of their products and since I've been using them for a while now, I thought that for today I would share with you how I got on.

In case you're not familiar with the brand, LOLA Makeup are a cruelty-free, UK makeup brand who, in their words, design products for real women to look and feel their best selves. They are passionate about creating a community that celebrates natural feminine beauty and I have to say this is really refreshing to hear from a makeup brand, in a world where we're usually told more is more! They offer everything from foundation to nail polishes to makeup tools and all at very reasonable prices. I was invited to try out their Mega Volume Mascara, their Automatic Eye Pencil and their Love collection Matte Liquid Lipstick.

Mega Volume Mascara in Black.

According to their website, this mascara promises maximum length, ultimate curl and a HD finish. It contains ingredients such as Vitamin E and Olive Wax to condition the lashes and claims to be smudge proof and to build intense volume using micro-fibres. My first impression of a mascara is always dependent on how big the wand is - the bigger the wand, the more likely you are to build more volume in my experience. This one has a large wand which I approved of, and comes in lovely, sleek packaging.

Normally I try to steer clear of mascaras that have fibres in them as I have quite sensitive eyes and I've found in the past that some of those fibres can irritate my eyes personally, however this was not the case with this mascara. 2 coats and I achieved volume, length and definition and I was really impressed! I didn't experience any clumping or flaking - another pet hate of mine - and it hadn't slid down under my eyes by the end of the day. I would absolutely purchase this myself in future! It is priced at £11.95 and you can pick it up here.

Automatic Eye Pencil in Classic Black.

If there's one item I can't do without in my makeup bag, it's eyeliner. A quick line on the top lashes adds definition even when you're not going with eyeshadow, or you can go all out with a full smokey eye and add some liner to the lower waterline and lash line too. Eye pencils are perfect for day to day makeup when you don't have time to fiddle around with gel or liquid liners or when you want a softer look. They are also perfect for the more mature client if you're a makeup artist.

The Automatic Eye Pencil is a retractable type of pencil with a slim tip, a soft texture and great colour pay off. It, like the mascara, was long-lasting and didn't smudge or slide off my eyes during the day. In fact even the swatch that I put on my hand when the package arrived didn't come off without a fight. The retractable tip is very handy too if you're in a hurry - no need for sharpening. This pencil also comes in brown, grey, blue and green as well as the black and I would definitely try out more shades based on this one. More details can be found here.

In the below photos, I have used the Automatic Eye pencil, smoked out and set with a black eyeshadow, and the Mega Volume Mascara.

Love Collection Liquid Matte Lipstick in First Date.

As the name suggests, these are a matte, long-lasting liquid lipstick in four different shades and priced at £7.95, promising a long-lasting, smudge-proof finish while being lightweight and moisturising at the same time. The shade I was sent is First Date - a pinky, mauvey shade which is the sort of shade I would usually go for. And the colour is absolutely gorgeous on. The texture of these is lovely - yes they are matte but they still feel creamy if that makes sense and they don't crack or flake on the lips like some matte liquid lipsticks can. I would definitely consider picking up some of the other shades. Again, you can find out more information on the lippies here.

All in all, I was very impressed with each of these products - with the quality and lasting power and also with how affordable they are. I would be very keen to try out more of their range in future. I'll leave a link to their website here if you would like to find out more.
